Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Welcome to yet another school year! I am excited to be your daughter’s/son’s teacher. With your support, s/he will experience and positive and productive year!

Your daughter/son and her/his classmates deserve to be in a positive and safe learning environment. I have created the following discipline plan to encourage students to make appropriate behavior choices. The plan below outlines my rules, positive recognition for appropriate behavior, and consequences for inappropriate behavior.

Rules will teach students respect and responsibility:

Respect- everyone is expected to treat others in a positive manner. This includes respect for self, other students, the teacher, and classroom materials. Disrespect will not be tolerated; no student will be allowed to disrupt our positive learning environment or injure the confidence of another student.

Responsibility- everyone is expected to be prepared for class and seated BEFORE the start of the bell. Please note: students who are coming in at the last minute and are not seated before the START of the bell WILL be marked tardy.

1. Be prepared, on time, and stay in your seat.

2. Listen the first time instructions are given.

3. Quiet when someone else is talking.

4. Keep your hands, feet, and all objects to yourself.

5. No profanity.

Positive Recognition:

To encourage students to follow classroom rules, I will recognize appropriate behavior with verbal praise, "good news" notes home and positive phone calls home. Additionally, students with exemplary conduct will receive a "Good Citizenship Award" at the end of each quarter.

Consequences:

                    First offense: Warning.

Second offense: Reprimand and student takes responsibility for writing a plan of action.

                    Third offense: Reprimand, parent-student-teacher conference.

Forth offense: Reprimand, conference with principal.

I am excited to work with your child this year. Please review my disciplinary plan with your daughter/son. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 214 553-8577.

Sincerely,

Susan J. VanDyke
